Pelosi’s Comment About Trump Sparks OUTRAGE!
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Thursday night, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., released a statement talking about former President Donald Trump’s indictment by a New York City grand jury. However, the statement led to a lot of criticism because of the inaccuracies it included regarding the rule of law in the United States.
In the statement, Pelosi wrote that “the grand jury has acted upon the facts and the law” and that no one was above the law. She proceeded to note that the trial was there to “prove innocence.” She added that she was hoping that Trump would “peacefully respect the system” so that he would get access to the chance to prove his innocence.
This was precisely the comment that many focused on, as in the United States, the trial is not there to “prove innocence.” In fact, according to uscourts.gov, one of the main principles of the justice system is that anyone accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
This makes a large difference, as it means that the burden of proof is always provided to show that the defendant is guilty of any crime that they are being charged with.
Pelosi’s statement was shared on Twitter, where many users were quick to criticize her for this inaccuracy.
The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro was quick to respond to the statement, writing, Uh, it’s ‘innocent until proven guilty, not an opportunity to ‘prove innocence.’”
Former New York City Mayor and former personal lawyer to Trump, Rudy Giuliani, also responded, claiming that this statement was so blatantly “wrong” and that even “middle schoolers” knew that “you’re innocent until proven guilty.”
