The Democrat leaders of Portland have, over the last two months and counting, done almost nothing to effectively stop the rioting and destruction that comes bursting out of the populace every evening. Actually, it’s worst than that. They have gone out of their way to reject federal help that would tamp down this ongoing chaos, because for some reason Mayor Ted Wheeler thinks that he’s got the situation under control. This is far, far from the case, of course, as demonstrated starkly on Friday night when the “protesters” set fire to the Portland Police Association building. Again.
“The PPA office has been the site of numerous violent protests over the past few months, and protesters have lit the building on fire several times,” the Portland Police Department said in a statement. “It is located in a residential neighborhood and there is concern that any building fire could spread to occupied homes, especially during the current stretch of dry weather.”
Police said, oddly enough, that as the rioters began setting fire to dumpsters in the area, officers tried to stay out of sight for fear of making things worse. A very interesting approach to policing they have in Portland, no?
“However, arsonists put some debris, including a large mattress, against the front door of the building, appeared to spray accelerant on it, and lit it on fire,” the department said. “The flames appeared to engulf the front door area of the building and nearly reach the roofline. Due to the extreme life safety concerns, the Incident Commander declared the incident a riot.”
Earlier in the day, Mayor Wheeler sent a bitter letter to President Trump once again rejecting federal help.
“Dear President Trump,” he wrote. “Yet again, you said you offered to aid Portland by sending in federal law enforcement to our city. On behalf of the City of Portland: No thanks.
“We don’t need your politics of division and demagoguery,” Wheeler continued. “Portlanders are onto you. We have already seen your reckless disregard for human life in your bumbling response to the COVID pandemic. And we know you’ve reached the conclusion that images of violence or vandalism are your only ticket to reelection.
“There is no place for looting, arson, or vandalism in our city,” he continued, quite incorrectly. “There is no room here for racist violence or those who wish to bring their ideology of hate into our community. Those who commit criminal acts will be apprehended and prosecuted under the law.”
It’s immensely baffling to consider what kind of drugs Wheeler must be smoking to come up with this type of letter. How strong is the stuff they grow in Oregon, anyway? This is beyond medical-grade.
We suppose you can’t help those that don’t want your help, though. Sorry, normal citizens of Portland (if there are any of you left). We’d suggest that you start looking for somewhere else to live.
