Republican Lawmaker Blasts Schiff for “Lying” to the American Public

In some of his harshest remarks yet about the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry, Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) tore into House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) this weekend, excoriating the Democrat for “lying” to the public and withholding facts. Speaking with John Castimatidis on his New York radio show on Sunday, Zeldin accused the Democrats of running a “flying by the seat of your pants-type process” that was short on logic and reason.

“Something that I find outrageous is the cherry-picked leaks, the withholding of key facts, and the lying about other claims that’s misleading the American public,” Zeldin said.

He explained that through his work on the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee, he has listened to more than 20 hours of testimony from both former special envoy Kurt Volker and former ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovich. He said that if more Americans were privy to these testimonies, impeachment polling would take a nosedive.

“These depositions should be live in front of the American public for everyone to hear,” he said. Why are we sitting inside of Adam Schiff’s bunker turning in our cell phones before we come in and are told that nothing here can be told to the American public?”

Well, some questions answer themselves.

Zeldin added that it shouldn’t be up to Schiff and the Democrats alone to keep the whistleblower from testifying before Congress.

“I have outstanding questions,” he said. “The only thing the whistleblower has to add that’s new is information that, frankly, Adam Schiff and his staff don’t want us talking about.”

Exactly. Information like: How many hours did the whistleblower spend with Schiff working up this complaint before he finally went to the inspector general? How tight was the relationship between the whistleblower and Joe Biden? How desperately does this whistleblower want to put a Democrat in the White House next November? This is information we’d all like to hear.

By essentially hoarding the impeachment process, Democrats are taking the risk of the American people seeing this for the partisan witch hunt that it is. But that’s apparently preferable to the other risk, which is to open up the process and have it exposed as a joke and a fraud. Better to keep it behind closed doors, where Democrats can leak out-of-context tidbits to the press and work this impeachment for its true purpose: Turning the polls against Trump ahead of the 2020 election.
