Rob Reiner: Anyone Who Votes GOP is Voting for “Destruction of Democracy”

Few Hollywood celebrities have claimed the Mantle of Hyperbole over the past two years like washed-up director/actor Rob Reiner. More of a political pundit these days than a working member of the Hollywood establishment, Reiner rarely misses a chance to go on social media or MSNBC and pontificate about the (dreadful, abominable, END TIMES) state of our great American experiment.

Reiner was at it again on Sunday, warning his Twitter followers that if they go out to vote for a Republican candidate in this year’s midterm elections, they are literally casting a vote for the ruination of the United States.

“Let’s be clear,” he wrote. “At this point in our history, a vote for a Republican is a vote for institutional racism, sexism, and a vote to enable the destruction of Democracy. To Democrats: VOTE! To principled Republicans: VOTE DEMOCRATIC!”

Well, we don’t know if we qualify as “principled” in the Rob Reiner Dictionary of Values, but we’re sure as hell not going to “vote Democratic” in the November elections. And we have serious doubts about the principles of any Republican who does. This week, of all weeks, should prove to any Trump-doubting conservative that his election was the best thing to happen to this country since the days of Ronald Reagan.

On the other hand, what kind of “destruction of democracy” would we have been looking at under the rule of President Hillary Clinton?

Well, let’s see. We would have two – count ‘em, two – Supreme Court nominees as liberal as the sky is blue. God knows what kind of bizarre, anti-constitutional rulings we would have gotten over the spring, to say nothing of those coming this fall. We would have seen an expansion of amnesty for illegals, including a push to give voting rights over to non-citizens. That would have been TERRIFIC for our democracy! Clinton would have expanded state-sponsored healthcare to the point that it became state-run healthcare, thus pushing us ever forward into a socialist state. Yeah, this is what we’re missing out on by voting Republican, and that’s without even getting into the subject of gun rights.

To really capture the stupidity of what Reiner is saying, though, you don’t even need to have strong feelings about any partisan subject. You just need to parse the phrase “a vote to enable the destruction of Democracy.” Well gee, Rob, the fact that it’s a vote makes it sound like the most democratic thing in the world. Ya mind if the American people choose for themselves?
