Romney Won’t Defend Trump, But He’ll Defend Obama
Sen. Mitt Romney is about as bad as James Comey when it comes to the size of his high horse. Oh boy, is that some steed. And on Tuesday, the senator from Utah climbed atop that mighty stallion to let the world know that he would not vote for a judge who had besmirched the hallowed reputation of the president. President Barack Obama, that is.
Romney was the only Republican in the Senate to vote no on confirming Michael Truncale to be the next U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Texas. Why did Romney take this unusual stand? Because Truncale once called President Obama an “un-American imposter.” Heavens to Betsy.
“He made particularly disparaging comments about President Obama. And as the Republican nominee for president, I just couldn’t subscribe to that in a federal judge,” Romney told Politico. “This was not a matter of qualifications or politics; this was something specifically to that issue as a former nominee of our party.”
There’s a reason that Romney went all the way back to the days of his presidential run to cough up his opposition to Truncale – that’s right around the time that the judge made the remark. These were comments he made in 2011 when he was running for Congress. They were not remarks he made from the bench, and they should have had absolutely no bearing on his fitness for the District court.
But Romney and his mighty stallion saw things differently. He just couldn’t bear to stand aside and see the fine, upstanding reputation of Obama questioned by this awful conservative.
Meanwhile, we’re pretty sure that Mitt Romney has said things about Donald Trump that would make “un-American imposter” sound like a compliment.
In responding to questions about his remarks from the Senate, Truncale wrote: “I will note that it is possible, however, that I was merely expressing frustration by what I perceived as a lack of overt patriotism on behalf of President Obama.”
Nothing to apologize for, Judge. We all lived through the Obama presidency. We all remember when Michelle said that her husband’s election made her proud of this country for the first time in her life. We all remember his World Apology Tour. We all remember his attempts to turn America into a subservient, honorary member of the European Union. Whether or not the birther thing ever held any water, Obama’s attitude towards this country was plain for all to see. And if he considered himself a “leader” in any respect, then imposter is the only term that fits.
As we see it, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. And if Mitt Romney doesn’t like it…well, that’s just more evidence that you’re on the right track.
