“Savages”: NBC Says Trump Tweet Aimed at Democrats was Racist

According to the braintrust at NBC News, we now have reason #4,345 to believe that President Donald Trump is a racist.

“Can you imagine if these Do Nothing Democrat Savages, people like Nadler, Schiff, AOC Plus 3, and many more, had a Republican Party who would have done to Obama what the Do Nothings are doing to me. Oh well, maybe next time!” the president tweeted on Saturday.

Now obviously Trump can’t be racist towards Nadler and Schiff, both of whom are as white as the president, but that didn’t stop reporter Phil McCausland from using the cesspool known as Twitter to create his ridiculous story.

“Some Twitter users pointed out that Trump’s latest broadside against Democrats focused on four women of color as well as the two heads of committees helping to lead the impeachment inquiry — Rep. Jerry Nadler of New York, who chairs the Judiciary Committee and Adam Schiff of California, who leads the Intelligence Committee,” McCausland wrote.

“’AOC plus 3’ apparently refers to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, who is of Puerto Rican heritage, and the three other members of the so-called ‘squad’ of progressive congresswomen: Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, an immigrant from Somalia; Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, who is black; and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, who is of Palestinian descent,” he continued.

So? Why do we need this breakdown? Why isn’t there a place in the story where we can trace back the race and ethnic heritage of Jerrold Nadler and Adam Schiff, as well, perhaps, as that of Phil McCausland? Shouldn’t we have everyone’s history of oppression and privilege out on the table before we can make an informed conclusion about this story?

Is this really the kind of country we want?

We’ve seen this before, of course. Trump can call Chuck Schumer or a Random White Celebrity whatever he wants, and it’s treated as a non-event. But the very second he turns that ire against a Maxine Waters or a Barack Obama, suddenly it’s racism. The idiotic double-standard has almost grown comforting, it’s so common. Even so, we’re pretty sure this is the first time that Trump has been found to be both racist and non-racist IN THE VERY SAME TWEET. But we suppose this follows the logic that a “Muslim ban” can encompass both North Korea and Venezuela.

We continue to wonder how much of this race-baiting is purposeful strategy and how much comes from a place of true belief. The latter is almost scarier. Either way, it’s doing incalculable harm to our country.
