State Department Could Yank Hillary Clinton’s Security Clearance
Despite the FBI’s proclamation that they grossly mishandled classified information while working at the State Department, former Secretary Hillary Clinton and her top aids continue to have security clearances that give them access to highly-sensitive government secrets. But now that Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and the State Department itself have begun their own investigations into Clinton’s misdeeds, those clearances could be stripped away.
Well, it’s a long way from the justice that should be meted out in Clinton’s case, but we’re glad to know that her election loss is not going to end the official inquiries into exactly what she and her band of merry misadventurers were doing while serving under Obama.
Fox News reports that the State Department is looking to determine whether Clinton and her top advisors violated strict government protocols when receiving and transmitting classified messages. The report could not confirm when the investigation began, or whether it was initiated under Rex Tillerson or his predecessor, John Kerry. Although, if we were forced to hazard a guess…
Grassley launched his committee’s investigation on the basis of the statement then-FBI Director James Comey made last summer. In the process of exonerating Clinton from criminal charges, Comey said that Clinton and her team were “extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.” Grassley said, in justifying his congressional inquiry, that it appeared that Clinton and her buddies had violated the law, despite the Justice Department’s decision to forgo prosecution. And of course, millions of Trump supporters felt the same way last year, giving rise to one of the most memorable political chants in America history: “Lock Her Up!”
While we would LOVE to see Clinton finally pay some sort of legal price for her crimes, the more important issue now is how and why she DID NOT pay that price last year. Yes, the email scandal probably had a lot to do with keeping her out of the White House, but that doesn’t change the fact that she should have, indeed, been “locked up.” Or, at the very least, should have been prosecuted. When you put that together with Comey’s testimony accusing Attorney General Loretta Lynch of being politically-conflicted during the investigation, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered.
Questions like: Did the Obama administration let Hillary off the hook because she was the Democratic candidate for president?
