Alumni from her college wanted to strip her of her honorary degrees. Leftists vowed to raise millions to defeat her if she dared to cross them. One psycho even sent her a letter filled with what he said was deadly ricin. Say what you will about Maine Sen. Susan Collins, but her decision to vote yes on Brett Kavanaugh was one of the bravest decisions of her political career. And in the voicemails she shared with Fox News this week, the truly vile nature of the left is revealed. These people pretend to be the caring, compassionate ones in our society, right? Here are some examples of that compassion.
“You are so f—ing naïve,” one caller told Collins. “You will go down in history as the most naïve person ever to be in Congress. You f—ing, f—ing feckless naïve woman. Trying to make Americans more equal. F— you.”
In another call, a liberal idiot said, “Don’t be a dumb c***. Don’t be a stupid f—ing hypocrite. If you care at all about women’s stories, vote no on Kavanaugh. Don’t be a dumb b—-. F— you also.”
Apparently none of these morons ever heard the old chestnut about catching flies with honey.
From Fox News:
Collins, throughout it all, kept her decision close to the vest, until a dramatic floor speech in October announcing her intention to vote for Kavanaugh. Along with the support of Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin and others, it was enough to confirm the nominee.
In her speech, Collins said the confirmation had resembled a “caricature of a gutter-level political campaign” and criticized Democrats for announcing their opposition to Kavanaugh before his name was even announced. She also criticized outside groups for distorting Kavanaugh’s record and “over-the-top rhetoric.”
Sen. Collins has irritated us more often than she has pleased us over the last couple of years, but we have to give her the due credit she deserves for helping put Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court. It cannot have been easy to stand up to this kind of political pressure, to say nothing of the outright physical threats to her and her family. That’s a lot to endure for something that should be a simple, matter-of-fact piece of Washington business. Our hats are off.
As for the left, shame on anyone who tried to harangue this woman into crossing party lines and voting no on the “rapist” Brett Kavanaugh. We’ve seen the left in this country go on some mighty bizarre witch hunts, but we’ve never seen anything like the way they behaved during this man’s confirmation. Anyone involved – from Senate Democrats to liberal pundits to average fruitcake leftists on the ground – ought to look back on this episode with self-loathing for years to come.
But we doubt they will.
