Ted Cruz Unloads on Democrats for Blocking Coronavirus Bill
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) left absolutely nothing on the table on Monday afternoon when he took to the floor of the Senate to blast Democrats for blocking the consideration of the $1.8 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill. Waving aside the faux-concerns expressed by the Democratic leadership – that the GOP-authored bill spent too much money on corporations and not enough on individuals – Cruz said that the excuses were as farcical as the legislative inaction itself.
“Last night when this Senate voted on whether to move forward with emergency relief legislation for the millions of people being devastated by economic disaster we’re seeing as a result of the coronavirus epidemic, every single Democrat in this body voted block consideration of this bill,” Cruz said.
“What does it mean to vote to block consideration?” he asked. “It doesn’t mean they voted against the bill. It means they voted against even starting to take it up.”
The Texas Republican scoffed at media outlets like The New York Times, which have busied themselves providing political cover for the Democrats. The Times, in particular, made it blindingly obvious as they cycled through three different headlines to cover the story in a way that would be favorable to Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.
“The New York Times headline moments afterwards read ‘Democrats block $1.7 trillion stimulus bill,’” noted Cruz. “Of course, that headline had the fault of being accurate, so within minutes, the New York Times changed it ‘Democrats block $1.7 trillion stimulus bill, citing worker concerns.’”
Cruz didn’t mention that by the time the paper went to press the next morning, it was accompanied by an Editorial putting the blame squarely on Mitch McConnell. That editorial was a doozy; it could have been written by the Democratic National Committee, and no one would have detected a thing out of place. In fact, hell, it probably was.
The Democrats and their unserious approach to the crisis was exposed the next morning when they released an embarrassing bill from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office. That 1,400-page bailout included mandates for race quotas in corporate boardrooms, an expansion of the “Obamaphone” program, and fuel mandates for the airlines, to name just a few examples of the left-wing pork.
“The famed quote from Rahm Emanuel, that’s President Obama’s chief of staff: ‘Never let a good crisis go to waste.’ Sadly, we’re seeing the embodiment of that cynical approach right now,” Cruz said Monday. “Because with all the people out of jobs, the Democrats are using this to push — what are they pushing for? Changing the emissions standards on airplanes. What the hell do the emissions standards on airplanes have to do with thousands to people dying and millions of people out of work in the coronavirus epidemic?”
The Democrats are truly shameless, and their ideological approach is worsening an already-terrible crisis.
Just imagine if they were actually in charge!
