The Democrats Will Wish They Had Never Pulled This Lawsuit Stunt
In a tweet on Saturday, President Donald Trump mocked Democrats for filing a lawsuit against his campaign, saying they were essentially suing him because they were still angry over losing the election.
“So funny, the Democrats have sued the Republicans for winning,” Trump said. “Now the R’s counter and force them to turn over a treasure trove of materials, including servers and emails!”
It would be the height of hilarity that, through the process of this lawsuit’s discovery phase, if it finally came out in the open that remote Russian hackers never had anything to do with the leak of the DNC’s emails. Like, really, that would be the ultimate cap on this entire conspiracy fraud and we could die happy knowing that justice had finally been served. We don’t expect that to happen, because we tend to think that the Russians really were behind the hacks, but man, that would be something. That would be incredible.
Anyway, the lawsuit. The Democratic National Committee filed suit against members of the Trump campaign, Russia, and WikiLeaks in a federal courtroom in Manhattan last week. The premise of the suit is that these three entities collaborated to illegally break into the DNC’s servers, disseminate private information, and destroy the party’s reputation in an effort to win the election. It is the left’s grandest conspiracy theory come to legal life. Apparently the Democrats are losing faith that special counsel Robert Mueller is going to swoop in and save the day.
“During the 2016 presidential campaign, Russia launched an all-out assault on our democracy, and it found a willing and active partner in Donald Trump’s campaign,” said DNC Chairman Tom Perez. “This constituted an act of unprecedented treachery: the campaign of a nominee for president of the United States in league with a hostile foreign power to bolster its own chance to win the presidency.”
This lawsuit signals that the Democrats, against all polling wisdom, are going to make these midterm elections a referendum on not just President Trump but on their theory of the 2016 election. They are so caught up in their bubble that they don’t even realize that the majority of Americans have simply moved on. No one wants to hear this nonsense anymore. No one believes that Trump collaborated, colluded, or conspired with Moscow. No one believes that the president engaged in treason, “treachery,” or any other T word the Democrats can come up with to describe their fantasy crimes.
The Democrats know that America has rejected and will continue to reject their message, and until they have another charismatic guy like Obama to make up for their failings, they have to confuse the public to the point of obliteration. So they’re going to make this election about Trump and Russia. This lawsuit is just a way for them to get themselves in the headlines and raise money. Hopefully, a federal judge will see it for the stunt that it is and throw it out. And then the American voters can do the same in November.
