The Genius of Trump’s “Racist” Attack on Progressive Democrats

Not since Charlottesville have we seen so many conservative commentators, many of them Trump supporters through and through, join the left in attacking the president. While some of them downplayed whatever racism the media finds in Trump’s tweets against AOC and her crew, almost all of them thought he would have been better off leaving this particular message in his own mind.

We get where they’re coming from: The Democratic Party is in a fractured meltdown; why would you want to ruin the fun by tweeting something like this and bringing everyone back into perfect unity?

“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run,” Trump wrote. “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

Suddenly, the world exploded. Conservatives, liberals, Pelosi, AOC, and everyone else in the known universe was mounting their highest horses to condemn Trump for this “racist” attack on women of color.

Was this really wise? Shouldn’t he have just kept his mouth shut and allowed Pelosi and AOC to split the Democratic Party right down the middle?

Well, maybe not.

See a story from Axios this week, which shows that a large majority of white swing voters now see Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as the face of the Democratic Party. What’s worse (for them): Only 22% of them have a favorable opinion of her. The numbers are even worse for AOC’s comrade-in-arms, Ilhan Omar. Only 9% of swing voters see her in a favorable light.

So: There’s actually a kind of brilliance to what Trump did this weekend. He WANTS the Democratic Party to rally around AOC and her rabid socialism. He WANTS Pelosi and The Squad to lock arms and sing kumbaya. The more independents, swing voters, and moderates see the Democratic Party as the party of Ocasio-Cortez and socialism, the worse their chances are next November.

Lay off the criticism, Trump supporters of little faith. Our president knows exactly what he’s doing.
