They Don’t Learn: Democrats Take “Impeach Kavanaugh” Message to the Voters
Democrats feel certain that they were onto something when they tried to destroy Brett Kavanaugh’s life as a substitute for actually having political power in the Senate. While their attempt to railroad President Trump’s second Supreme Court nominee did not succeed (and, indeed, seems to have injected fresh energy into conservative America heading into the midterms), they are not stopping with failure. No, instead, they are going to campaign on a message of “Investigate and Impeach Kavanaugh” – a message they hope will finally turn mainstream media outrage into actual votes. Good luck with that.
“We will not stop marching, we will not stop fighting,” DNC Chairman Tom Perez said in a statement.
He was joined by former Attorney General Eric Holder, who said that the legitimacy of the Supreme Court was now in doubt.
“With the confirmation of Kavanaugh and the process which led to it, (and the treatment of Merrick Garland), the legitimacy of the Supreme Court can justifiably be questioned,” Holder wrote. “The Court must now prove—through its work—that it is worthy of the nation’s trust.”
Sen. Dianne Feinstein – the Democrat who plunged us into this mess in the first place – was also among those insisting that Kavanaugh’s confirmation was a black mark on justice.
Voting for Kavanaugh “in the face of credible allegations of sexual assault that were not thoroughly investigated, and his belligerent, partisan performance in last Thursday’s hearing undermines the legitimacy of the Supreme Court,” said Feinstein.
It’s hard to understand why, after watching the polls over the last couple of weeks, the Democrats would believe that this is a sound strategy heading into the midterms. We get that they are scared to death over what Kavanaugh will do on the Supreme Court. We get that they are terrified about any ruling that might take a bite out of Roe v. Wade. We get that they’re ashamed to face their voters and admit that they don’t have the ability to do anything in defiance of the Republican majority. But even with all of that, they have to see that they’re doing incalculable damage – not just to the country but to their own political brand – with this constant #Resistance in the face of logic, rationality, and constitutionality.
Their outrage schtick might play well on The Rachel Maddow Show, but it doesn’t sound all that great on the ground, in the places where white working voters have turned away from the Democratic Party. Far be from us to advise the Dems on what to do next, but damn, just how incompetent are they?
