Trump: China is Desperate to See Me Lose to Joe Biden
In an interview with Reuters this week, President Donald Trump said that China’s actions and statements in recent weeks stood as evidence that their leadership would like nothing more than to see him lose to Joe Biden in November.
Trump, who has pinned much the blame for the COVID-19 pandemic on China’s early deception, has often noted that Biden would be a far more palatable candidate for Beijing. Given Biden’s history of making money in China and his frequent comments on how he’d like to work with Xi Jinping, that’s not much of a stretch. It’s beyond obvious that a Biden presidency would be a gift to the Chinese Communist Party.
In his comments to Reuters, Trump said that he was now reviewing his options in terms of how his administration would respond to Beijing over the coronavirus.
“I can do a lot,” he said. “There are many things I can do. We’re looking for what happened.”
On the subject of his race against Biden, Trump said: “China will do anything they can to have me lose this race. They’re constantly using public relations to try to make it like they’re innocent parties.”
Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Geng Shuang denied the charge on Thursday, insisting that the CCP has “no interest” in domestic U.S. politics.
“For some time, certain U.S. politicians, in disregard of the facts, have attempted to shift their own responsibility for their poor handling of the epidemic to others,” he said.
But of course, that’s what they would say.
Looking at the situation fairly and objectively, it’s impossible to come to any other conclusion that the one Trump has come to. And let’s face it: As harsh as Trump has been on China since the beginning of the pandemic (and really, the beginning of his candidacy for president), he has a lot of room to get harsher. China’s crimes against humanity could range from global deception to improper laboratory conditions to deliberately allowing the virus to escape their borders. How much of this they are truly guilty of remains to be seen, but they are not innocent – that much is certain.
Even putting the coronavirus aside, China desperately wants a liberal, globalization-first president who will restore the old Beijing/Washington relationship. You know, the relationship that let China take advantage of the U.S. on trade, rip off our intellectual property with impunity, and laugh at us all the way to the World Bank. Biden is just the kind of limp-wristed leader to give them exactly what they want.
Just one more reason why it’s so important that he be defeated.
