Trump Named Islamophobe of the Year

A British group called the Islamic Human Rights Commission has awarded Donald Trump with the Islamophobe of the Year Award in a ceremony that’s unlikely to cause much harm to the billionaire’s steamrolling campaign. The group, which apparently finds these satirical awards a better use of their time than stamping out Islamic terrorism, gave the honor to Trump in absentia.

Speaking to the reasons for the decision, IHRC chairman Massoud Shadjareh said:

“It is bad enough that anyone can come out with such arrogant, unapologetic bigotry and hate speech but I think what is really frightening is that Donald Trump is supported by such a large number of voters in what is the most powerful nation in the world.”

The group said in a statement that the Islamophobia awards are intended as a way to “subvert Islamophobia through comedy and revue while simultaneously addressing a serious and significant issue in a creative manner.”

The award comes shortly after the St. Louis Council on American-Islamic Relations said that Trump was responsible for a rise in anti-Muslim sentiment across the country.

“We live in a nation today where people like Trump, where people like the Republican GOP have mainstreamed Islamophobia,” said director Faizan Syed. “[They] have made it okay. It’s okay to take out a gun and threaten somebody.”

Syed was apparently referencing an incident in nearby Affton, where a man was accused of threatening a Muslim family with a firearm.

One question: How is it possible to be this delusional and still do all of the things it takes to live a normal life? How do you get dressed in the morning when your head is filled up with this much lunacy? Four months after Islamists killed more than a hundred people in Paris, three months after they killed 14 in California, and these groups think Donald Trump is responsible for a rise in Islamophobia? Are you kidding?

Look, we can talk about whether Trump’s proposed immigration moratorium is a good idea or if it’s even practical, but at least he’s willing to address the problem by its name. These Islamic civil rights groups can pretend that their religion has nothing to do with terrorism, but most Americans are not that stupid. These groups are getting upset about speeches and drawings and raw bacon; meanwhile, the rest of us are upset about suicide bombings and beheadings and airplanes flying into our skyscrapers. It’s…not quite the same.

If these groups want to eliminate Islamophobia, they can do it by fixing whatever it is about their religion that drives people to shed innocent blood. And if that can’t be done – if there is a little more “true Islam” in these radical beliefs than CAIR and Obama would like us to believe – then maybe Islamophobia is justified.
