WashPost Says China WANTS Trump to Win Reelection in Asinine Report

Not only have we never seen an American president as tough on China as Donald Trump, it’s hard to even imagine what such a president would look like. It certainly won’t be any of the goofballs on the Democratic debate stage. And we doubt you could find more than a handful of Republicans who would be willing to put the economy on the line just to make sure that China no longer takes advantage of the U.S. in our trade agreements. Trump has knocked Beijing for a loop these three years past, and if you don’t think that Xi Jinping is praying for a Democrat to win the election next year, you are as crazy as you are misinformed.

Speaking of crazy and misinformed, that brings us to the Washington Post’s Anna Fifield. In a piece of reporting that is bad even by the Post’s standards, Fifield interviews a bunch of American leftists and “anonymous Beijing” sources to come up with a novel theory: China actually WANTS Trump to win in 2020! Imagine that.

Though the U.S.-China relationship has been rocky over the past 18 months, many in China’s halls of power hope that the American leader will win a second term next year. For although he may seem unpredictable, Chinese officials are betting that Trump’s transactional approach to politics might be preferable to a more principle-driven president, whether Democrat or Republican.

“Trump is a businessman. We can just pay him money and the problems will be solved,” said a politically connected person in Beijing, speaking on the condition of anonymity to talk frankly about sensitive international issues. “As long as we have money, we can buy him. That’s the reason why we prefer him to Democrats.”

A ”politically-connected person in Beijing,” eh? Are you quite sure that isn’t just Anna Fifield’s imaginary friend? Because we’re not convinced. Oh, by the way: If China could just “buy” Trump with a fistful of dollars under the table, then why are they letting him wreck their economy with tariffs? Seems to us that they would have made that convenient, handy payment a long time ago. Or perhaps they’re really enjoying the damage this trade war is doing to their structural power! Oh yeah, that makes sense.

This is the worst kind of fake news, and if Jeff Bezos had any sense, he would see to it that it gets eradicated from his newspaper. If you want to publish this nonsense on the Opinion page, that’s one thing. But to present this as an actual “news” story – that China would prefer Trump to a Democrat – is just the worst of garbage journalism in the #Resistance era. We really hope that most Americans aren’t dumb enough to fall for this propaganda.
