Watergate’s Carl Bernstein: Trump Leading U.S. to “Civil War”

At one time a respected journalist, former Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein has spent his later years “working” as a political analyst for CNN, where his mind-numbingly stupid, liberal nuggets pass for something akin to wisdom. Many years on from Bernstein’s crowning moment – his and Bob Woodward’s investigation into the Watergate break-in – the reporter is best known now for having his dirty byline on a CNN story about the phony dossier. Not his best moment.

But he seems determined to outdo himself.

In an interview with “Reliable Sources” host Brian Stelter (another winner) this weekend, Bernstein said that President Trump and his supporters were setting the stage for a second Civil War in America.

“This cold civil war predates Donald Trump,” acknowledged Bernstein. “And Donald Trump understood that we are in a cold civil war in this country. And he has exploited it and brought this cold civil war almost to the point of ignition through his actions and his words, which are unprecedented in terms of presidential conduct.

“No president in the history of the United States in 246 years has expressed the kinds of ideas and thoughts and undemocratic notions and authoritarian notions that he has,” he continued.

To be fair, no president in the history of the United States has been under the kind of constant, unhinged assault that Trump has been. But why don’t we move away from his rhetoric, which we all know is…well, it is what it is…and talk about his policies. What has he actually DONE that could qualify as undemocratic? What policies has he pursued that could be described as authoritarian? If anything, Trump has been more faithful to the Constitution than any president in recent history. But we guess that doesn’t matter because he says mean things about CNN on Twitter.

“We need to start connecting these dots,” Bernstein continued. “What do people in the country think of this and why do they think and support him, no matter what he does, no matter how outrageous seemingly his conduct is?”

Well gee, Carl, you’re the legendary reporter. Why not get off your duff and go find out what the people in this country think about all of these awful things? Here’s a hint: No president since Ronald Reagan has been as beloved by his supporters as Trump is. And we might even say that the loyalty of Trump’s supporters goes beyond even the Gipper. Why? Because people like YOU and your constant bashing of the duly-elected president as some kind of Hitler-in-the-making have made it a near-national duty to stick by the man’s side. Because, in the end, his supporters know that when you attack him, you’re really attacking them.

Oh, and Mr. Bernstein, let it be known: If we are headed for another Civil War, it will be because YOUR side wants to turn this country into a haven for illegal aliens, totalitarian gun-grabbers, and socialism. YOUR side wants to erase everything that ever made this country great. YOUR side wants to make being white, Christian, and/or male into some sort of unforgiveable sin. Take off your tinted glasses and see things the way they are. You might find the answers you’re looking for.
