(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador blasted Florida’s new immigration law during a press conference on Monday. According to Politico’s report, López Obrador called the bill “immoral.”
The bill in question was voted on by Florida lawmakers last week, and it provides $12 million to a Florida program used to fly migrants from border states to Martha’s Vineyard. Many critics have called this program inhumane for transporting immigrants.
López Obrador stated in his press conference that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, has used people’s pain for his own “political gain.” He added that these are “repressive, inhumane measures” taken by DeSantis in Florida, which has many immigrants, only because he wants to become a candidate.
If enacted, the bill would also block funding for undocumented immigrants to gain access to identification documents, as well as take away the driver’s licenses issued to undocumented immigrants from other U.S. states when they travel to Florida.
Leaders of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) issued a statement against the bill last week in which they pointed out that these recent bills were an attempt at “racial profiling” and harming the economy of Florida because of DeSantis’s refusal to support the Hispanic population that lives there.
Bryan Griffin, a spokesperson for DeSantis, pointed out in his own statement to The Hill that the only reason illegal immigration in Florida was a big problem was because of the Biden Administration’s refusal to secure the U.S.-Mexico border. He proceeded to state that, as the Mexican president, López Obrador also has measures in place to block illegal migration.
