A 5-year-old boy and a teen were among those killed in a drive-by shooting in Texas over the weekend that also left a toddler injured, police said.
The children were standing outside a home in Fort Worth with adults around 2:30 p.m. Sunday when a car pulled up and multiple gunmen unloaded two dozen rounds at them, Fox 4 News reported.
“I just could hear the mom in the background screaming for her child,” neighbor Amber Kurtz told WFAA-TV.
The 5-year-old boy, Rayshard Scott, was taken to the hospital, where he died, reported the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Jamarrien Monroe, 17, was also killed.
An 18-month-old boy was also shot, but is expected to survive. It was unclear how the victims are related, police said.
“We’re seeing violent crime on the rise across the country, and unfortunately we’re seeing violent crime here in Fort Worth in numbers we don’t want to see,” Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes said in a press conference. “But when you have children — when you have children who are murdered completely senselessly, it adds just another level to that tragedy we’re all experiencing.”
The suspects are still on the lam and cops did not provide a description of them or their car.
