Will This Lying Republican Be Booted?
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) revealed that if the House Ethics Committee decided that Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) had broken the law, then he would be removed from office. This is the most forthright comment that McCarthy has made to date regarding any possible repercussions that Santos might face over the latest allegations that have arisen against him.
McCarthy made the statement during a press conference. He also added that the American public had voted for him to be their representative. Until it was proven that there was a legal case against him, Santos would need to follow through with his responsibility of being the voice of those in his constituency.
Democratic Reps. Ritchie Torres (N.Y.) and Daniel Goldman (N.Y.) filed a complaint with the Ethics Committee calling for a probe into Santos. Currently, the accusations deal with the fact that Santos did not file accurate, complete, and on-time financial disclosures. Outside of the financial cases brought against him, there are also questions about what campaign finance laws he might have broken.
However, despite the complaint, it has not yet been made clear whether the Ethics Committee is actually examining the complaint. On Monday, McCarthy appointed Rep. Michael Guest (R-Miss.) to serve as chairman of the panel, however, the committee does not have any other members yet. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has also nominated five Democrats to join the committee.
Santos is also facing a probe by prosecutors in New York, and he is central in a case in Brazil.
