A 21-year-old Cleveland woman was sentenced to prison for the death of her newborn, who was discovered in a plastic bag in a college dormitory bathroom.Portage County court records show Breyona Reddick was handed a 10-year minimum sentence Tuesday, June 21. WJW-TV reports she faces a maximum of 15 years.Reddick was arrested March 24, 2020, on charges of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, endangering children, tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse, but in April, she pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.According to WOIO-TV, cleaning crews found the child Oct. 18, 2019, in a garbage bag inside Whitcomb Hall, a dorm for freshman students at Hiram College.Cleveland.com reports Reddick went to her doctor in June 2019 and complained of menstrual cramps, and the doctor prescribed some medicine. On Oct. 16, 2019, her birthday and days before giving birth, Reddick reportedly told family she felt constipated. Her father reportedly told her to take a laxative and drink apple juice. When she woke up at her dorm in the middle of the night to use the restroom, her roommate reportedly came in to help because she heard Reddick in pain.Reddick reportedly delivered the baby in the dorm’s bathroom. There reportedly were not any witnesses to hear the baby alive or crying.Paramedics transported Reddick to a nearby hospital that day for what she allegedly believed was constipation. Reddick reportedly told doctors she was not pregnant because she was a virgin. She was committed to the hospital’s psychiatric ward for five days, where she reportedly continued to assert she had never been pregnant. The autopsy reportedly determined the little boy died from “asphyxiation due to exposure and postpartum inattention.”According to Cleveland.com, Judge Becky Doherty told Reddick at her sentencing, “There is nothing that disturbs me more than sending a young woman to prison who should be a success story. But I also cannot overlook really the depravity that it took for you to take this child and toss him away like garbage.”Original Article: Ohio woman gets 10 years for death of newborn found in plastic bag in dorm bathroom | Truecrimedaily.com
she doesn’t need prison she needs serious help. putting her in hard time will only make her bitter and she will be raped over and over by long-timers and could end up killing herself. I pray you at least send her to a low-profile prison with a good counseling system and a Christian in-house program. she needs love and understanding of how to face, deal with and endure trials, tests, and temptations as she goes through these tough times in this journey called life. God has the answers but she needs help in understanding how to apply them so she becomes a winner instead of a victim.
seems the medical system should goto jail
WTF! how can they not have checked to confirm she wasn’t pregnant!
Under the circumstances of what is reported to have happened This woman needs help more than the insanity of jail.
21 yo.
College student.
Public School graduate, assumed.
Yet, she STILL “believed” she was a virgin, not pregnant.
A doctor didn’t tell her she was pregnant when she was in menstral pain, just 4 months before giving birth?
It is sad that people of today are quick to judge and administer so called justice. Next time before you judge, put yourself in that person’s position. I notice that no one commented about when someone aborts a baby. Isn’t that basically the same. Think about it.
This woman is clearly not well. She needs help, not punishment. I’m not saying set her free, I’m just saying she needs much counseling. Pray for her that she finds the love of Jesus Christ.
lets close all USA prisons NOW. Put all prisoners on 1M acres in the South West surround by & above a electronic fence. Give them bread & H20 everyday.
That young girl was scared, too scared to tell her family, a family that would have helped her, I pray. She needs some intense counseling, but jail would not help her. Basically, she aborted the baby and there has not been jail time for the thousands that killed their babies, why her?
Before she is released at the end of 10 years be sure she has a hysterectomy.
Absolutely! This should be mandatory for all monsters like this!

Clearly you are one of the soft on crime. This is what is wrong with this country, people like you. Do the crime, pay for the crime.
There is a special place in the bottom of hell for this piece of human garbage, mentally disturbed or not.

What’s the big deal. It’s just a post-birth abortion.
