“America First” – Wait, NOW It’s A Good Thing?
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – In a new report from Reuters, the White House has released a proposal that could boost U.S. manufacturing through government-funded infrastructure projects.
During the State of the Union address on Tuesday, President Joe Biden spoke about all of the construction and infrastructure projects in the United States currently. He added that when these projects are completed then a switch towards buying products manufactured in the U.S. will occur. He added that this is all “consistent with international trade rules.”
Biden added that the new rules being put in place will help ensure that goods manufactured in the U.S. such as lumber, glass, drywall, and fiber optic cables are going to be used for the construction of “American roads, American bridges, and American highways.”
The new guidance was released by the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and falls under the $1 trillion 2021 infrastructure law that passed through Congress.
Livia Shmavonian, whose work in the White House is focused on promoting American goods, said that the proposed guidance is going to have a positive effect on the “implementation of domestic content standards, while also improving federal financial assistance management, consistency, transparency, and oversight.”
As part of the OMB guidance, there are also standards being put in place regarding the quality of manufactured goods, including “plastic and polymer-based products, glass (including optic glass), lumber, and drywall.”
