Christians Land MAJOR WIN – Here’s Why!
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Thursday, the Texas State Senate approved a bill that would require public schools in the state to have a display of the Ten Commandments in every classroom.
The legislation passed the chamber in a 17-12 vote along party lines and is now heading to the state House of Representatives.
State Sen. Phil King (R), who was the author of the bill, claimed that having a display of the Ten Commandments would help highlight “the role that fundamental religious documents and principles had in American heritage and law.” The Republican lawmaker added that this was a direct response to the ruling in the Kennedy v. Bremerton School District case from last June.
In the case, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a high school football coach who was conducting a prayer with students both during and after games. This decision resulted in the Lemon Test no longer being applicable. The Lemon Test was previously used to establish whether legislation violated the Establishment Clause.
During the committee hearing, he added that this legislation was made possible by the recent Supreme Court’s ruling, which overturned the Lemon Test. He continued by adding that this is a “good, healthy step for Texas to bring back this tradition of recognizing America’s religious heritage.”
On Thursday, another bill was passed in Texas that would allow school districts to have a required “period of prayer and reading of the Bible or other religious text on each school day.”
