Democrats to Teachers: Don’t Teach Climate Controversy!

Three prominent congressional Democrats are urging public school teachers to toss out a climate book written by scientists who do not conform to the so-called consensus view of global warming. The Democrats – Bobby Scott, Raul Grijalva, and Eddie Johnson, issued a joint statement opposing the book on Monday.

The book is called Why Climate Scientists Disagree About Global Warming, and it was sent to thousands of teachers by the conservative Heartland Institute. Written by Dr. Craig Idso, Professor Robert Carter, and Dr. Fred Singer, the book teaches climate controversy and gives facts to support skepticism.

“Public school classrooms are no place for anti-science propaganda, and I encourage every teacher to toss these materials in the recycling bin,” said Rep. Scott. “If the Heartland Institute and other climate deniers want to push a false agenda on global warming, our nation’s schools are an inappropriate place to drive that agenda.”

Yeah, the public school system is for OUR agenda, silly conservatives! What do you think we’ve been building for the last fifty years, an exceptional academic system? Hell no, we’ve been turning these schools into centers for liberal indoctrination, and this dirty book doesn’t have a place in that environment!

In a letter to teachers on March 3, the Heartland Institute’s Joseph Bast asked educators to “consider the possibility that the science is in fact not ‘settled.'”

“If that’s the case,” Bast wrote, “then students would be better served by letting them know a vibrant debate is taking place among scientists on how big the human impact on climate is and whether or not we should be worried about it. That sounds pretty reasonable, doesn’t it? Not, apparently, to out-of-touch Democrats in Washington, DC.”

Bast said the congressmen should take a look at the book before passing judgement.

“Then they will understand why scientists, voters, and now the President of the United States all believe global warming is not a crisis,” he said. “It’s time to move on, find another fake crisis to hype to scare voters and raise campaign dollars. The global warming scare is over.”

Sadly, it’s not over. Not by a long shot. And it will never be over as long as the left can use their climate hysteria to pass regulations, grow the government, and cripple the free market. This is the excuse liberal Democrats have been waiting for their entire lives; an excuse to gut capitalism and extend the reach of the federal government into every single aspect of American life.

Like most liberal ideas, this one tends to fall apart when challenged with logic, facts, and common sense. So Democrats are doing what they do on every issue and making it very difficult to hear the other side of the argument. Even the craziest ideas can gain traction when no one objects.
