FREEDOM WINS: Trump Moves to Roll Back Contraceptive Mandate

Religious employers and faith-based organizations are breathing a sigh of relief as the White House moves to make good on Trump’s pledge to roll back the contraceptive mandate. Federal officials are reportedly finalizing a rule that will roll back Obama-era requirements that force employers to offer health insurance plans that include controversial forms of birth control. The White House Office of Management and Budget said it was in the process of reviewing an “interim final rule” to remove the mandate, which would undo one of the most unconstitutional aspects of Obamacare with or without a full repeal.

The move is not unexpected; Trump signed an executive order at the outset of May that directed his cabinet to look for healthcare regulations that were butting up against “conscience-based objections to the preventive-care mandate.” And, as the New York Times pointed out, he made it clear what he wanted when he praised the Little Sisters of the Poor in the Rose Garden while signing the order. That was no coincidence, seeing as how the religious organization was, until recently, locked in a lawsuit against the Obama administration over the contraceptive mandate.

“With this executive order,” Trump told them, “we are ending the attacks on your religious liberty.”

The National Women’s Law Center vowed to sue the administration if it repealed the controversial rule, but as Ed Morrissey pointed out on his Hot Air blog, such lawsuits would be unlikely to succeed. To win, the activists would have to prove that the Trump administration is standing in the way of women who need access to contraceptive care. But the Centers for Disease Control conducted a study in 2009 that demonstrated that “contraceptive use in the United States is virtually universal among women of reproductive age: 99 percent of all women who had ever had intercourse had used at least one contraceptive method in their lifetime.”

Access to contraceptives has not been a legitimate problem in the U.S. for a long time – certainly for a much longer period of time than the Affordable Care Act has been around. It won’t be a problem after the administration scraps these rules.

Of course, the Democrats never cared about solving a “problem” in the first place, and that has been borne out by the many court decisions striking down the Obama administration’s tireless attempts to regulate religious beliefs. This was always about making faith illegal – or, to put it another way, to replace faith in God with faith in government.

Trump can’t bring back America’s religious beliefs with an executive order, but he can certainly allow those Americans who choose faith to do so without risking their businesses, their jobs, or their very freedom.

The elite snowflakes talk the talk but they don’t walk the walk. They jump on the backs of less fortunate people and use THEIR experiences to act like they care, but they continue to live completely separate lives in mansions hobnobbing within their elite snobby circles ONLY. And when you get hold of their “secret” recordings to, say, Wall Street, it’ll be how they have nothing in common with the “little guy”, which is what many of them were at one time until they were able to open the taxpayer coffers and help themselves… liberally. I guess that is what it means to be a liberal. They’re very “liberal” with other people’s money and things (heaping it on themselves and their closest allies). And certainly very “liberal” with slanting the truth about, well, everything.

He is very weak. That is why he responds in such a childish way to anything negative about him, including everything negative said about him. In terms of lying, he has contradicted himself even in the same sentence! There is a reason why he has been named in over 3,500 lawsuits, including the one over Trump University in which he sold many people on a lie. This was also the same person that spread the birther lie.

          • Shecky June 3, 2017 at 4:23 am

Your argument is weak billy boy. Between you and most of the media you sound like a bunch of whining brats.

No honey, being an idiot ruined your nonexistent career…lol. Another one of the lawsuits your counting is President Trump suing the two chefs for breach of contract.
To many of you brain dead zealots got your feelings hurt when the worst lying sack of shit to hit the presidential trail HilLIARy lost even with millions of fraudulent votes… Why do you folks hate voter ID’s?….oh, to many of the dead and illegals wouldn’t be able to vote!!!!

          • Billy Ray June 4, 2017 at 12:14 am

@disqus_jTuHJjjwnO:disqus Your voter ID claim is unfounded. All these laws were put in place with the intent to discourage and disenfranchise voters. There are not significant amounts of dead people or illegal immigrants voting. Yes, the voter rolls are full of names but without a national registry of sorts there is no way to tell if one dude who registered in one district moved away no longer lives in the district or is no longer alive. Jared Kushner notably was registered in more than one state. In terms of illegals voting, that claim is unfounded. Most fraud that does occur comes from those registered in multiple districts voting in each district and absentee ballots, which the voter ID laws fail to address. And in regards to the lawsuits, the Trump University one says enough of his character. He screwed good people out of their money. Other cases include screwing over contractors and rape.

You are either very naive or listen to to much liberal news. Voter fraud is bad enough with just the ones that have been caught….not sure how old you are but when I was in my partying years cocain was rampant and they talked of the numbers using the drug. They weren’t even close, and the numbers of those arrested for use were in the 1% range. I’m seeing a resemblance to what is now voter fraud…hey, you have to have an ID to drive, buy liquor, cigarettes and you have to have that and a background check to buy what is our 2nd Amendment right. You have to have an ID here in Kalifornistan if your a white guy walking down the street and a police officer asks for your ID (they don’t enforce that law for minoritys saying it’s racist…lol). Heck you can’t get on a plane without an ID… Why do you folks think voting for the people that run our lives doesn’t deserve to be done by people that are legally able to vote for them with an ID?

Who the hell did he rape? I know there are a few that hilLIARy’s mate slick willie either raped or assaulted.

          • Billy Ray June 5, 2017 at 7:23 pm

@disqus_jTuHJjjwnO:disqus Again, your claims of voter fraud are unfounded. There is nothing to support that it is rampant. Cocaine is not comparable as that all happened behind the scenes, not at a voting booth that the governments can track. In terms of rape, Trump is accused of raping Ivana and an underage girl.

@disqus_ryQa1zMmY6:disqus What’s cheaper, birth control pills or 9 months of maternity care including birth and then post-birth costs? Also, here’s a list of other uses of birth control pills for healthcare needs other than preventing pregnancy: http://youngwomenshealth.org/2011/10/18/medical-uses-of-the-birth-control-pill/

          • pineapple June 5, 2017 at 9:08 pm

Birth control is simple and inexpensive. Ladies, just hold a birth control pill between your knees, or wear panty hose.

          • Billy Ray June 6, 2017 at 4:56 pm

@disqus_ryQa1zMmY6:disqus Telling insurers to cover birth control is also simple 😉

          • pineapple June 6, 2017 at 8:51 pm

Insurers don’t pay the cost. Policy holders like me pay the costs in the form of higher premiums. Nothing is free.

          • Billy Ray June 7, 2017 at 8:27 pm

@disqus_ryQa1zMmY6:disqus Again, covering birth control is cheaper than covering the costs of pregnancy and giving birth. There is a positive return on investment for covering birth control, meaning the insured pay less in premiums because of birth control being covered.

@justin_seine:disqus We’re not talking about hand-outs here. We’re talking about healthcare coverage provided by the employer being required to cover contraceptives. Essentially access to contraceptives is gained in exchange for work, or in other words, it is earned by the employee. What the “beliefs” thing says is that anyone who does not believe in birth control does not have to provide coverage for it as part of their health insurance plan; basically it’s like your boss forcing his beliefs over the employee’s needs. Contraceptives also have non-birth control uses, so denying coverage to it is like denying a patient medicine. Also if beliefs of the owner are so important, why does it stop at birth control? Why should then an owner that is a Jehovah’s Witness cover blood transfusions, something they don’t believe in, as part of their plan? Short answer is that health coverage should be health coverage, so those things should be covered.

      • Shecky June 4, 2017 at 8:01 pm Reply

Contraceptives i.e. Birth control is NOT healthcare. If your having unprotected sex that is on you…no one is making you have sex, that’s a choice. No employer should be expected to pay for your choices.

Get a grip, Snowflake. And while you are at it, go buy yourself a fücking clue. President Trump is rolling back one of the worst aspects of Obozocare, and not one single woman will suffer because of it.

The order does not mandate that employers are prohibited from offering contraceptive care in their employee health plans, it merely removes the mandate that they MUST, whether they want to or not. It returns CHOICE to the employers. Those employees retain the CHOICE of who to voluntarily accept a job from.

Isn’t “choice” what all of you Libtard Whackadoodle Dipsh|t Democrook Douchebags are all about? I mean, we were happy to let all of you Fücktard Fart Muppets choose to vote for a LOSER candidate, weren’t we?

@ArizonaMilitiaDotCom:disqus You wasted a lot of breathe there. The mandate simply made it so that healthcare plans actually provided adequate healthcare. Contraceptives have more uses than just functioning as birth control. This proposal by Trump makes it so that one other person’s “beliefs” trumps someone else’s healthcare needs. That’s not right.

    • mary murphy June 1, 2017 at 3:40 pm Reply

Billy Ray, you are kidding, of course. You know that women’s health has very little to do with having sex. If a young woman wants to have sex, it is her responsibility to make sure she has protection, not my responsibility. If you didn’t know that, feel free to put it in your memory so that in the future you do know it.

      • Billy Ray June 1, 2017 at 5:40 pm Reply

@disqus_s7oQevbfMB:disqus It’s not your responsibility if someone else has sex, nor is it your liability for the contraceptives of others. Also, contraceptives are used to treat other things besides acting as birth control. Lastly, why should someone else’s “beliefs” trump someone else’s healthcare needs?

        • mary murphy June 1, 2017 at 7:04 pm Reply

If the contraceptive is being used for anything other than contraception, I believe the young woman’s doctor will give her a prescription that will let her get the med for that particular reason, if he is a “real” dr.

          • Billy Ray June 2, 2017 at 12:23 am

@disqus_s7oQevbfMB:disqus Doctors already prescribe contraceptives. But with the removal of the mandate the emplor’s health insurance may not cover that contraceptive, thanks to some owner claiming that their health insurance plans covering contraceptives is somehow against the owner’s beliefs. That is wrong.

What is the differenc in the form of birth control used , Condom, IUD, Sponge, Vaginal Ring, Implant, Shot or the Pill they all accomplish the same thing. The big difference is Business does not want to pay for it as a cost measure. 99% of women use some form of birth control during reproductive years of that 14% of womwen use birth control pills for other medical reasons.
This is NOT a freedom wins issue anyone who belives it is is a fool.
Religious Freedom = If you do not want to use birth control or have an abortion because it is against your religious belief than you DO NOT have to use or do it.
If it is such a big religious issue then why do 99% of women use some form of contraception during their reproductive years?

    • ΛrizonaMilitiaDotCom June 1, 2017 at 2:06 pm Reply

The issue is whether an employer should be FORCED to offer contraceptive care in their employee health plans whether or not they object to doing so on religious grounds. With this new order, President Trump has returned that CHOICE to the employers.

The order does not mandate that employers are prohibited from offering that option, it merely removes the mandate that they MUST. Not one single woman employee will be harmed by that rule change.

Those women employees still have the CHOICE of who they accept a job offer from. If they want to work for an employer who offers that kind of care in their employee health plan, then they can go take a job from a different employer. Otherwise, they can learn to keep their knees together.

      • mary murphy June 1, 2017 at 3:44 pm Reply

Or perhaps buy their own contraceptives? Novel ideal, don’t you think, or perhaps her partner doesn’t want to be a “daddy” and could protect himself from having that happen–another novel idea.

      • The Help June 1, 2017 at 4:23 pm Reply

Bottom Line providing contraception adds to the overall cost of insurance for the company eliminating it saves the company money, just like spreading the cost for mamagrams to male and female insured which quite a few male republicans want to stop.
I’m guessing you don’t have alot of sex unless it’s for the sole purpose of procreation. As I stated those who believe that it is wrong DO have a voluntary choice but since 99% of women use contraception during their fertile years I don’t think religious belief is a very strong motivator to stop the use of contraception by even the strong religious believers.

My access to 757’s has always been there, but my money to buy one has never been there, so I do not have a personal one. The reason for the employer mandate to cover such things, is to make them affordable. The reason that my father changed dentists about 15 years before his death was that the dentist was a Scientologist, and he forced his employees to take part in his religious beliefs against their will, and enough of his patients left to cause him to loose his private practice and become an employee of a chain where he could not do this. I doubt seriously that women who cannot afford birth control will stop having sex, and this will result in many unplanned and unwanted pregnancies, and with SAFE and LEGAL abortions not available to them, those who do not want to have a child will turn to the good old ‘back ally’ abortionists or attempt to do it themselves with something like a wire coat hanger, drain cleaner, or some other method that is really quite dangerous, and some of these women will die, or some will be unable to conceive again, with those going who can make it going to the ER for treatment at the taxpayers expense just so they have a chance of living, which will be great for all – the taxpayers will pay for more cleanups and the employers will save their money and pass the costs along to others as usual.

Please continue to let us know on other totally dumb actions this President does that are against the best interest of the people.

So what you’re saying is, since we have a bunch of ignorant young women that want to spread their legs every time they meet someone yet they can’t afford to buy a condom or birth control pills or walk to the DSHS office and put some of the free condoms in their pockets and then use them that the rest of us should have to pay for her parents inability to teach her right from wrong or responsibility for her own actions we should give a shit and pay for her mistake, you’re an idiot and I think you should go right ahead and send all of your own money to pay for all of those poor misguided unwed women’s mistakes , and when you are broke and hungry you don’t have to worry because you can just make stone soup! Good luck with your soup,I really hope you enjoy eating your wet rocks.

It’s wonderful to finally have an intelligent President for a change! The previous one was a severe embarrassment, not to mention an enemy of America.

I’m glad to see this happening. I hope does what he promised to do repeal Obama Care completely.

Next, no money for Planned parenthood for abortions. Because of Crooked judge we can only hear what their workers said about destruction of beautiful babies. Get rid of it and let us never hear about them again.

Women have a natural birth control. Keep your legs closed. You are responsible for your own actions-not me.

@sharrellburcham:disqus how are you responsible for a woman you don’t know taking birth control that was covered by her employer’s health insurance? We’re talking about female employees working in exchange for benefits and compensation, in which case one of the items is health insurance and an essential benefit to that is contraceptive coverage. Also, contraceptives have other healthcare purposes and treats other health issues. .

The world loses with this decision, not just America. Combating and preparing for the effects of climate change is the single most important issue of the 21st century and beyond. Nothing is more important.

Love a man who keeps his word. We have not had a president who has done that in decades. Go Trump.

Pulling out of the Paris accord is a positive step for Trump throwing out more illegals would be another positive step arresting and imprisioning The Clintons and OBozo and his cronies yet another getting rid of neoconJew Kirshner another checking welfare and food stamp recipients for drugs another Independence for Puerto Rico and repatriation of its inhabitants the notion Puerto Rico as a state is laughable what will they call it the welfare state time to get rid of these parasites!

The best contraceptive is DONT SCREW!! Why should I pay & not get any pleasure out of it??
This is as stupid as thinking the working class needs to pay for insurance for the lazy SOBs that don’t work & then pay twice as much for our own insurance!!

Birth control is cheap, cheaper then cigarettes, cheaper then wine or whiskey, cheaper even then a soda but it’s even cheaper to keep your knees together!?
