GOP Unites to OVERTURN This Crime Bill!
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., told reporters that he was going to vote along with other Republicans to have the D.C. crime bill overturned. The bill would have reduced the penalties served for many types of crimes, including burglary, robbery, and carjacking.
When asked directly about what his vote would be, Schumer said that there was not a debate there and that he would be “voting yes.”
The D.C. legislation was going to reduce the maximum penalties for some crimes, while also completely removing the mandatory minimum sentences for other crimes. This legislation has faced a lot of criticism from both liberals and conservatives with Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser vetoing the legislation last January. However, the City Council chose to override the veto.
Last week, President Joe Biden also announced that he would be signing the House measure and that he would not be vetoing it. The Constitution in these cases allows Congress to act as a super city council for the District of Columbia.
On Monday, Schumer confirmed that a vote would take place. While the Democrats still have control of the Senate, many Democrats will be supporting the rejection of the new criminal code. Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, has said that he is also going to be working to have the law overturned or removed.
