You may or may not have noticed this, but liberal Democrats don’t always rush to blame guns for every American shooting. It’s easy to miss, because they are typically consistent in their messaging. Over time, you can easily forget those rare instances where they went in another direction.
Take the Charleston shooting, for instance. Yes, there was some of the same handwringing about guns after that devastating event, but the majority of Democrats were focused on (of all things) the Confederate Flag.
Or look at the attack on a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic. Democrats barely mentioned guns after that tragedy; they were too busy blaming Republicans for their anti-abortion rhetoric.
So we see that, even recently, Democrats don’t always go straight for the Second Amendment after every mass shooting. Even after the Orlando massacre, where they saved quite a bit of space for the gun rhetoric, their message was multipronged and included issues like LGBT rights and Hispanic outreach.
That Democrats are a threat to our right to bear arms should be obvious. What’s not so obvious, though, is the reason they’re so zealous about it.
The easy answer is that they’re all fascists who want to turn the country into a powerless collection of unarmed citizens they can dominate without resistance. And to be sure, there is some truth to this. There are definitely those elitists who think America would be better off under an all-powerful federal government, and they are constantly scheming to move us closer to that twisted vision.
As it happens, though, the real key to understanding the Democrats’ anti-gun drumbeat is found in those instances where they forget to bang the drum. It’s only in their unusual silence that you realize that the truth is somewhat more mundane. They are blaming guns because it distracts us from the many left-wing failures they don’t want us to talk about.
Keep the focus on guns, and there’s less room to talk about President Obama’s sad war against the Islamic State.
Keep the focus on guns, and there’s less time to discuss the liberal economic policies that have decimated our metropolitan communities.
Keep the focus on guns, and there’s less pressure to address a garbage culture that demonizes America, leaving young men and women feeling so empty that they are attracted to anything that makes their lives feel meaningful – be it ISIS, violent protests, or senseless mass murder.
These Democrats know that their gun control proposals aren’t going to do anything to stop these shootings. This is obvious when you see how gratefully they pounce on any other available issue. The goal is just to keep the immediate discussion from turning to the troubling issues that actually explain what’s going on.
Those issues – to say the least – do not reflect well on the Democratic Party.
