Liberals Will HATE What Jeff Sessions Just Did For Religious Freedom
On Monday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the Department of Justice will be creating a religious liberty task force to help the DOJ make sure that every lawyer and law enforcement officer in the organization is following Trump administration guidelines when it comes to protecting religious liberty.
Last year, President Trump signed an executive order directing all administration agencies to make the protection of religious liberty and political speech a priority. Sessions said Monday that the task force will “ensure all Justice Department components are upholding that guidance in the cases they bring and defend, the arguments they make in court, the policies and regulations they adopt, and how we conduct our operations.”
In his speech, Sessions said that the winds of intolerance were blowing strong in the United States, marginalizing people of faith and forcing them to betray their most closely-held values.
“We’ve seen nuns ordered to buy contraceptives,” he said. “We’ve seen U.S. senators ask judicial and executive branch nominees about dogma – even though the Constitution explicitly forbids a religious test for public office. We’ve all seen the ordeal faced so bravely by Jack Phillips [the baker who was sued after refusing to bake a cake for a gay wedding].”
Sessions said that the Justice Department and the Trump administration as a whole was now operating under the guidance of 20 fundamental principles pertaining to religious freedom. That, he said, included protecting Americans’ right to worship as they choose and act upon their beliefs without undue government interference.
“In short,” he said, “we have not only the freedom to worship, but the right to exercise our faith. The Constitution’s protections don’t end at the parish parking lot nor can our freedoms be confined to our basements. Religious Americans are no longer an afterthought.”
Drawn to this announcement like moths to a flame, the ACLU, which you’ll recall is supposed to be a DEFENDER of the very freedoms that Sessions is talking about, immediately posted a link to an article on Bustle that warned Americans that we should be very, very afraid of an administration that actually cares about that pesky “religious” thing in the Constitution.
“Attorney General Jeff Sessions has the rights of religious Americans at the forefront — and ahead of those of LGBTQ Americans, women, and even some religious minorities,” began the article.
See, these freaks on the left think that when a Christian doesn’t bake a cake for a gay wedding, their “gay rights” have been infringed upon. They haven’t. There is no such thing. Secondly, there’s certainly no such thing as a constitutional right to an abortion or a sex change or any of the other tomfoolery that Democrats think they can find in our founding document. There is, however, an explicit defense of religious liberty in the First Amendment. But see, the left hates the Constitution as its written and see it as a threat to everything they hold so dear.
Which, frankly, it is in some cases. That’s what makes the Constitution so great and it’s what makes the left’s agenda so perilous for our nation. Thankfully, we finally have an administration that sees it that way.
