(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – A new General Social Survey looking into religion in America found that only around half of Americans were certain of God’s existence.
The 2022 survey specifically found that slightly less than 50 percent of Americans expressed no doubt about the existence of God. The survey, which was released on Wednesday by NORC, the University of Chicago research organization, also found that 34 percent of Americans never attend church. This is the highest that figure has been in the five decades that the survey has been completed.
Previous data from 2008 had put the number of those certain of God’s existence at 60 percent.
In a different survey from the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), 27 percent of Americans claimed that they did not belong to any religion. This is another large increase, as a decade earlier, in 2012, only 19 percent had expressed the same stance.
The PRRI is specifically focused on tracking the country’s declining Christian population, especially among white Americans. Specifically, those who identify as white evangelical Protestants have dropped from 23 percent in 2006 to 14 percent, those who identify as white Protestants from 18 percent to 14 percent, and white Catholics from 16 percent to 13 percent.
However, just because of the decline in the prevalence of religion, it does not mean that Americans are not spiritual. In fact, around three-quarters of Americans stated that they believed in an afterlife, according to the NORC data. The number of people who don’t believe in God was found to be only 7 percent.
