Parkland Group Announces Plan to Confiscate More Than 100 Million Guns

The gun control group founded by the Parkland survivors and their Washington benefactors has released its new plan just in time for the 2020 presidential campaign season to swing into high gear. March for Our Lives introduced “A Peace Plan for a Safer America” this week, and it’s just the sort of radical policy you might have expected. With some already calling it the Green New Deal of guns, the plan calls for a mandatory buyback scheme that aims to take as many as 100 million firearms out of the hands of American citizens.

“In order to operationalize new laws like an assault weapons ban and a higher standard of gun ownership, we need to implement a federal gun buy-back program that facilitates compliance with new laws and provides economic incentives for gun owners to responsibly reduce their gun inventory,” the plan says.

“All government-purchased gun inventory would be destroyed,” the document continues. “The intended goal: a reduction of our domestic firearm stock by at least 30%. To be clear: the implementation of an assault weapons ban should be a full mandatory buy-back of assault weapons, but we would also create programs to encourage voluntary civilian reduction of handguns and other firearms.”

Seeing as how there are roughly 370 million firearms currently circulating among the population, a buyback aimed at getting 30% off the grid would put the figure at just about 111 million guns. The March for Our Lives group cites the famous Australian confiscation effort as a roadmap to this goal, although any academic worth his salt has already explained, ad nauseum, why such a scheme cannot work in the United States.

But that didn’t stop Parkland survivor Tyah-Amoy Roberts from getting excited about the plan in an interview with the Washington Post.

“It’s bold. It’s nothing like anyone else is proposing. We are really setting audacious goals,” Roberts said. “And more than anything, what we are seeking to do is be intersectional. We know and acknowledge every day that gun violence prevention is not just about preventing mass shootings.”

Great gumdrops, there is literally nothing the left can’t connect back to their politically-correct “social justice” routine, is there?

Among the other proposals outlined in the Peace Plan: Ban all Americans from owning firearms unless they apply for a special federal license; create a national registry of all gun sales; ban anyone under 21 from owning a gun; limit how many guns you can purchase in a month; and hold gun manufacturers responsible for crimes committed using their weapons.

In a political system where even strengthening background checks is controversial, we don’t see much reason to worry about any of these absurd plans becoming law. Not only are they politically unpopular, many of them fall directly afoul of the Constitution. Still, it’s troubling to see the gun grabbers get this explicit about their goals. They’re trying to move the Overton window, and history tells us that this usually acts as a prelude to smaller (but still significant) infringements on our rights.
