Protestors Come Out Against Planned Parenthood
On Sunday, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards denied that her organization had done anything illegal regarding the sale of fetal organs harvested from aborted babies. She blamed “militant” anti-abortion activists for the “doctored” footage that horrified millions of Americans. But while Richards remains unapologetic for the disturbing content found on the videos, thousands of pro-lifers are planning to hold nationwide protests against the organization.
On Tuesday, anti-abortion groups are planning to take to the streets in more than 50 cities in an effort to strip Planned Parenthood of their government funding. Coming together under the #WomenBetrayed hashtag, the pro-lifers say that the feminist organization has hurt the very women it claims to help.
“Women are supposed to help and support other women – not use them for profit and sell the body parts of their prenatal children,” said Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life of America. “Planned Parenthood gets a half a billion a year in taxpayer dollars. We are calling on every state and federal government to cut off those funds immediately and investigate Planned Parenthood for possible wrongdoing.”
This is an amazing opportunity for pro-life Americans to put the spotlight on abortion for the first time in years. According to the latest polls from Gallup, only 50% of Americans consider themselves pro-choice. The media acts as if this fight were settled a long time ago, and Republicans haven’t made it an issue in ages. It’s time to reject this myth of abortion acceptance and show Washington that millions of Americans still find this practice despicable.
“Planned Parenthood had a net profit of $127 million in 2013-2014,” Hawkins said. “Let them fundraise and support themselves like any other business in the country that isn’t deceiving women and making money off of taking the lives of the most vulnerable and selling their body parts.”
No kidding. If Hobby Lobby is exempt from providing insurance coverage that includes certain forms of birth control, why can’t taxpayers refuse to fund abortion? Are we really supposed to buy this load of garbage about the funds only going to non-abortion activities? How does that work exactly? If you fund only the “health screenings” part of Planned Parenthood, does that not allow them to move “other” funds to their abortion practices? Make no mistake about it: if you pay your taxes, you’re funding abortion.
Changing the law on abortion could take a very long time, if it happens at all. But with enough momentum, we can at least make sure we aren’t actively throwing our hard-earned money at this national evil.
