(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) –  A group of Democratic senators, led by Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), sent a letter to President Biden urging him to enable states to sponsor noncitizens for work authorization in order to handle the workforce shortages being faced by different industries.

In the letter, it is stated that immigration reforms are necessary if they want to ensure that each state will be able to handle its workforce needs. They further note that the lack of workers has led to many businesses having to close down, while other businesses have had to hire workers who don’t have the correct authorization.

Many of these workers end up working for lower wages and worse working conditions. The senators further argued that many of the migrants who had entered the U.S. through the southern border would be “ready, capable, and willing” to enter the country’s workforce.

In the letter, it is also noted that parole could also be given on a case-by-case basis. As they claimed, a state-issued parole program could help each state meet the workforce needs it has in each state. They continued by arguing that while it is important for Congress to find a pathway to citizenship, it is improbable that it will happen within the time required for the workforce shortage to be addressed.

Another issue they point out in the letter is that asylum-seekers currently need to wait six months before they are able to receive a work permit. The processing time of the application could also take close to a year at times because of the processing times; in contrast, those who have parole are able to apply for work authorization immediately.
