Undergrad Thinks “White Boys” Should No Longer Speak in Class
It’s not every day that a column from a student newspaper goes viral, but that’s exactly what happened when undergraduate Leda Fisher decided she’d learned one important lesson from her years at Dickinson College: “White boys” should just keep their mouths shut in class.
In an astoundingly racist op-ed that would have never been published in a million years if the races were reversed, Fisher explains that she’s sick and tired of hearing guys like “Jake” and “Chad” speak out in class about subjects they have no experience with. Having been raised to believe in the millennial version of identity politics – where you can only talk about things that your race/gender/sexual identity allow for – Fisher thinks it’s time for white students to take a seat.
From the column:
American society tells men, but especially white men, that their opinions have merit and that their voice is valuable, but after four years of listening to white boys in college, I am not so convinced. In my time at Dickinson I have listened to probably hundreds of white boys talk. It feels incessant. From classes and lectures, to the news and politics, there is an endless line of white boys waiting to share their opinions on the state of feminism in America, whether the LGBTQ+ population finally has enough rights, the merits of capitalism, etc.
The list of what white boys think they are qualified to talk about is endless. Something very few of them seem to understand is that their (ill-informed, uncritical) opinions do not constitute truth. In fact, most often their opinions aren’t even original. White boys spout the narrative of dominant ideologies and pretend they’re hot takes instead of the same misleading garbage shoved down our throats by American institutions from birth.
It is not only remarkable that the Dickinson College student newspaper would print this trash, it is stunning that Fisher would accuse someone else of regurgitating “ideologies” without any sense of irony whatsoever. Her entire column is a recitation of the New Millennial Bible, which states that anyone who is white, male, and straight is The OPPRESSOR and must be silent on any issues not directly pertaining to them. That’s not college. That’s not critical thinking. That’s the Twitter mob. That’s Social Justice Warrior 101.
“It’s not often that racist and sexist thoughts are married so well on the page, so kudos to the writer for creating this perfect storm of hate,” wrote Scott Waverly in one of the comments. “Who will get space next on the editorial pages of The Dickinsonian? A Klansman? A gleeful misogynist?”
Of course not! All the oppressive -isms are a one-way street in the crazy town of identity politics. So mention that a black man is well spoken and you’ll soon find yourself looking for a new job. But you can tell white kids to sit down and shut up – that you are “so god***ed tired of listening to them” – and it’s just fine. It’s just fine, because the rules are for thee, not for me.
And these people still wonder why Trump was elected. Ha!
