Bezos’s Ex Donating Billions To Liberal Causes With Her Alimony, Including $275M To Maybe The Most Liberal Of Them All
On Wednesday, Jeff Bezos’s ex-wife Mackenzie Scott said in a Medium post that she’s donated over $3.8 billion to at least 465 organizations since June of 2021. Half of these organizations are led by women, reports Bloomberg Wealth. You can check out the full list of Scott’s gift and donation database online.
Planned Parenthood, founded in 1916 with over 600 health centers across the nation, is a well-known organization that helps women with reproductive health care. Their services are often debated among government leaders because it includes abortions, and in 2015 a shocking report by Fox News showed a clip of an organization leader caught on camera confirming they were selling fetus tissue.
In addition to Scott’s $275 million to Planned Parenthood, she gave to 12 military veteran organizations, and according to the New York Times, Scott donated $436 million to Habitat for Humanity International and 84 of their affiliates. Habitat for Humanity is a global non-profit organization that partners with communities to help families in need obtain home ownership. Former President Jimmy Carter also donated efforts toward the organization.
According to The Associated Press, Mackenzie Scott’s unrestricted funds for Habitat For Humanity International will be used to grow the amount of affordable housing, especially in communities of color. Mostly, local partners will manage projects in their own communities, while the Habitat international team will focus on wider advocacy efforts for blue-collar families.
Other than the normal donation websites you’d expect from a prominent woman like Bezos’s ex, we noticed a unique recipient, The World Mosquito Program, who collaborates with the Monash University of Australia. Bill Gates, a software expert who in 2019 became the leader of Coronavirus efforts, also has a keen interest in mosquitoes and has his picture plastered on their Partners and supporters page. The World Mosquito Program is partly funded by the well-known Bill and Melinda Gates foundation
You might be aware that Bill Gates funded a genetically-modified mosquito pilot project earlier in the month, you can check that story out here.
In the Medium essay, Scott wrote “Our team’s focus over these last nine months has included some new areas, but as always our aim has been to support the needs of underrepresented people from groups of all kinds.”
In the past Scott has written about her passion to promote equity and prioritize women’s groups, people of color, LGBTQ organizations, as well supporting COVID relief organizations.
