Half of Biden’s Twitter Followers are Fake
It won’t surprise those in the loop of things to learn that half of Joe Biden’s Twitter followers are fake. As reported in The Washington Times, 49.3% of the accounts that follow Biden’s official account @POTUS are not real, verifiable people.
This information came out as a result of an audit of Twitter accounts by the software company SparkToro. The company defines fake accounts as:
Accounts that are unreachable and will not see the account’s tweets (either because they’re spam, bots, propaganda, etc., or because they’re no longer active on Twitter).
In actual numbers, this means that out of Biden’s current 22.2 million Twitter followers, only 11 million are real followers. This isn’t very far from the numbers Biden started with at the time of his 2020 presidential campaign, i.e. 9 million. The fake accounts seemingly serve to inflate his apparent popularity, which in his case is historically low for any holder of the oval office. It is worth mentioning that Biden’s persona account @JoeBiden has 34.3 million followers. It’s not clear how many of them are real.
Twitter is long known for promoting leftists, including Democrat presidents, by adding or allowing fake followers. The most famous example of this is that of Barack Obama, who had millions of fake followers during his presidency. In September 2013, Daily Mail called Obama “the undisputed king of the fake followers” after it was revealed that more than 19.5 million of his 36.9 million followers on Twitter were not real people. In other words, about 53 percent, or more than half of Obama’s Twitter followers were fake.
The other “phoniest accounts” of the time were Obama’s wife Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and the White House communications shop. Biden’s fake followers at that point were 46%, i.e. close to half of his total number of Twitter followers.
On the contrary, Twitter has been known to temper with accounts of President Donald Trump’s followers. Suspending accounts of Trump followers and making their accounts unfollow President Trump’s official as well as personal accounts were routinely reported by conservatives.
Despite all the efforts of Twitter to make trump seem less popular on its platform, his followers kept growing in numbers and at the time when he was permanently banned from Twitter, the number of his followers stood at a good 89 million.
