How Far Has Biden’s Ratings Tanked?

This week, President Joe Biden’s approval rating hit a new low of 40 percent, amidst gas price woes, inflation, and the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, marking a warning sign for Democrats ahead of the fast approaching 2022 midterm elections.

In a poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos, it found that just 40 percent approve of Biden’s job performance, and that 54 percent disapprove.

77 percent of Democrats said that they approve of his Biden’s performance, while only 10 percent of Republicans and 27 percent of independents responded as such.

The poll, conducted over two days, March 21 and 22, fell three points from the week prior, which reportedly follows a similar trajectory his predecessor, Donald Trump, took, hitting 40 percent in mid-March in his second year in office.

While the Reuters/Ipsos poll hit that new low, other polls in recent months have hit lows in the 30s.

Last month, an ABC News/Washington Post poll found his approval rating to be at 37 percent, and in the month prior, a Quinnipiac University poll revealed that Biden’s approval rating was just 33 percent.

In the Reuters/Ipsos poll, respondents cited the economy as their top concern, followed by war and foreign conflicts.

Economic concerns come as the nation hits a recent high in the consumer price index, which hit 7.9 percent for the last 12 months ending in February. This is the highest 12-month period since July of 1981, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
