It’s OFF THE TABLE – Kevin McCarthy Says No!
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Thursday, Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said that the House Republicans did not intend on making Medicare or Social Security cuts a part of the negotiations relating to the debt ceiling.
During an interview on Trump Jr.’s “Triggered” podcast, McCarthy noted that neither Medicare nor Social Security would be touched. These remarks came only a few days after House Republicans started considering which entitlement programs they would be able to target in order to reduce federal spending. This is following an announcement made by the Republicans in which they noted that the debt limit would only be increased if there were spending cuts associated with the change.
The U.S. hit its debt ceiling on Jan. 19. Following this, Congress now has to ensure that the government will not default on its debts. The Treasury Department has said that through the use of “extraordinary measures,” they would be able to keep the country from defaulting until early June. This allows Congress a few months in which they will deal with the issue.
President Biden and congressional Democrats have so far not been willing to participate in any negotiation regarding the debt ceiling increase. Instead, they are calling for a clean increase that does not require any changes in spending.
Former President Trump in a recent video posted on Truth Social urged Republicans to avoid cutting down on Medicare or Social Security which is a necessity for many Americans to survive.
