Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard and the Left’s Hypocrisy on #MeToo

Though the mainstream media is abuzz with the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard defamation trial, liberals are once again awkwardly playing neutral, and appear not to “believe the woman,” which they passionately preached over the past 5 years.

Depp divorced Heard, who is more than 20 years younger than him, in 2017 after their brief marriage of about two years crashed. But since Heard went public with allegations of domestic abuse against Depp after their divorce, both have filed multi-million dollar lawsuits against each other. The current case, Depp v Heard, went to trial in Virginia last month and has since generated media buzz worldwide. Both Depp and Heard have accused each other of domestic abuse and violence.

While many are interested in the sleazy and, at times, disgusting details of who did what to who, the liberals claiming to be the defenders of women’s rights have been shy of coming to Amber Heard’s defense. In their latest episode, the leftist women’s team on the infamous show The View openly expressed disinterest in the case. All of them pretended they had not been following the case much and one even suggesting that it is not something that should be aired.

So why don’t liberals want to talk about it and seem to be nowhere near coming to Amber Heard’s defense because she is a woman and is to be believed as the same liberals screamed the slogan of believing all women after the big MeToo movement started out of Hollywood in the wake of Harvey Weinstein’s sexual abuse charges and subsequent conviction.

On May 11, Katie Edwards of The Independent asked what happened to the MeToo movement and believing women in cases of abuse. Despite writing in the leftist daily, Edwards sounded honest and on-the-mark as she questioned the coldness with which Heard’s claims against Depp were received in media.

It turns out that all we should have learned in the five years since the #MeToo movement went viral is that it means sweet FA if it’s a popular, fanciable celebrity bloke that’s in the frame.

What Edwards did not mention, or conveniently avoided mentioning maybe because she was writing for a leftist daily, is the left’s track record of going deaf and blind whenever their own darlings came under allegations of rape and abuse. Before Amber Heard was Juanita Broaddrick, who accused Bill Clinton of rape. The liberals tried to silence and discredit her. Then came Tara Reade who accused Joe Biden of rape. The left ignored Reade too, and though Kamala Harris first pretended to believe her during her presidential campaign days, when Biden picked her as his VP, she backtracked and indicated that Biden wouldn’t do something of the sort.

Similarly, when the Weinstein scandal made headlines, conservatives started posting a video clip of Michelle Obama praising Harvey Weinstein at a 2013 event, in the presence of Hollywood celebrities including Whoopi Goldberg, and calling him a “good friend.” The left conveniently looked the other way as the Obamas and Clintons had both been close to the women’s abuser and rapist for a long time and after his reality was out, they posed as if they had no idea of the kind of person he had been all those years.

It’s no surprise that the left will push the MeToo movement into any ditch of convenience that serves their political loyalties to the Democrats. Johnny Depp is a known Trump-hater and the left’s darling. When it comes to an attack on hiss character, the liberals will naturally turn off the MeToo switch and turn on that called Hypocrisy.
