Judge REFUSES To Release Trump’s Legal Details
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Two news outlets had previously placed a bid to try and gain access to the details relating to former President Donald Trump’s attempts to stop his aides from testifying in front of a grand jury tasked with investigating Trump’s attempts to block the 2020 transfer of power following the election.
On Thursday, Chief Judge Beryl Howell of the U.S. District Court in Washington issued a ruling mandating that the grand jury was allowed to maintain its secrecy relating to the court opinion and other filings over disputes that took place behind closed doors. In the 32-page opinion Howell noted that as per the grand jury secrecy rule, the disclosures requested were not permitted.
POLITICO and The New York Times had both petitioned to have parts of the grand jury proceedings released in October. However, the Justice Department had opposed having any information from the secret running unsealed which had led to Howell needing to rule in the case. She added that maintaining secrecy over certain details of the investigation was required in order to protect both the witnesses and the government’s investigation.
POLITICO and The Times are both considering, respectively, whether or not they want to appeal the judge’s decision. POLITICO’s spokesperson Brad Dayspring has stated that they would be looking through the case and trying to determine their next steps.
Danielle Rhoades Ha, the Times spokesperson also expressed disappointment in the ruling and stated that they would be looking into whether or not they should take the next legal steps in this case.
