State House PASSES Major Bill – It’s About Time!
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – The Indiana House of Representatives on Tuesday passed new legislation which would allow the state to fund firearms training for teachers. The Republicans have argued that having armed teachers would help make schools safer.
The GOP backed-legislation passed the House in a 71-24 vote. The vote largely went along party lines. If the proposal becomes law, then Indiana teachers will be allowed to participate in 40 hours of firearms training which will be entirely paid for by the state.
Republican Rep. Jim Lucas, who sponsored the bill, said that this bill is necessary in “the tragic world we live in today.”
The proposal has not been met positively by Indiana Democrats however who have argued that the danger faced by children is going to be increasing because of this bill. Democratic Rep. Tonya Pfaff, a math teacher, said that the only thing that more guns in schools will bring is “more gun violence in schools.”
She added that it is the responsibility of school protection officers to protect the school. She added that her responsibility was to “teach algebra” and “there is no reason to switch our roles.”
Pfaff also warned that it might be possible for disruptive students to either steal the firearms or overpower the teacher holding them during a confrontation. She added that those who are called to teach don’t want to have to normalize guns or have to carry guns within the school.
She added that she is not anti-gun, but she disagreed with the idea of teachers having to carry guns in the classroom.
