Trump Fearful Of Close Ally?
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Legal scholars and experts have speculated that the House Select Committee’s report regarding the Capitol Attack could have provided the Department of Justice with enough information on who they should approach in their investigations and who of former President Donald Trump’s closest people they should try to flip.
Attorney Ryan Goodman, a former special counsel to the general counsel of the Department of Defense, had previously speculated that former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows would be willing to give testimony and cooperate with the Justice Department’s investigation, especially considering he had told his staff to urge other to provide testimony in the House committee’s investigation.
New evidence from the committee may now be used to further implicate Meadows and even get him to switch and move against Trump in order to avoid legal woes of his own.
According to a transcript released on Tuesday, former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson had said that Meadows between the 2020 election and mid-January 2021 had regularly thrown documents into the fireplace. She had said that she had witnessed such an event take place “roughly a dozen times” but had not known what the documents were about.
Attorney Norman Eisen told Newsweek that this revelation could make Meadows more liable, which as a result would make him a bigger risk for Trump. Eisen pointed out that the higher the liability the more likely Meadows will be to “cut a deal and testify against Trump.”
Eisen added that while Meadows had so far been “a strong Trump loyalist” “the worse the evidence against an individual is, the more likely they are to attempt to cooperate.” He continued on to say that this was based on his “experience in over three decades of practicing criminal law.”
Eisen, who had served under the Obama administration, argued that the act of burning documents, instead of properly disposing of them could be used to suggest that there was “more nefarious” with the chief of staff. The act itself may also be viewed as evidence of violating the Presidential Records Act or trying to obstruct justice.
