Trump’s “Real Russia Story”: Obama, Clintons And Uranium One Scandal
The unforgettable Uranium One scandal involves alleged bribery, kickbacks, extortion, and money laundering at the highest levels of the U.S. nuclear industry.
Uranium One, a former Canadian uranium mining company that had assets of US uranium, was bought by Russian state-backed Rosatom. The U.S. was involved because the sale gave the Russians control of part of the uranium supply in the U.S.
The Obama administration approved this controversial deal in 2010 giving Moscow control of a large swath of American uranium. Hillary Clinton, who is currently pushing for Russia to step down and blames Trump for the Russia-Ukraine takeover, was the Secretary of State at the time of the money exchange and sale of the mining company (she was in office from 2009 to 2013).
Her husband and former US President Bill Clinton was paid $500,000 by a Kremlin-backed bank for a speech in Russia’s Moscow mere months prior to the Obama approved Uranium One deal.
According to an FBI whistleblower in 2018, Russia sent millions of American dollars to the Clinton Foundation as part of the “Russian Uranium Dominance Strategy.” The whistleblower testified to Congress that Hillary Clinton obtained millions from Moscow as part of the Uranium One deal. The Clintons were also under scrutiny at that time, alleging they were part of a “pay to play” political scheme.
William Campbell, the FBI whistleblower, claims he has over 5,000 documents over a six-year period, that prove the Clinton Foundation had laundered a massive amount of money from Moscow.
According to a statement from Campbell “The contract called for four payments of $750,000 over twelve months. The APCO was expected to give assistance free of charge to the Clinton Global Initiative as part of their effort to create a favorable environment to ensure the Obama administration made affirmative decisions on everything from Uranium One to the US-Russia Civilian Nuclear Cooperation agreement.”
As part of the deal, Russia ended up owning about 20% of the US uranium production, however according to Colin Chilcoat, an energy affairs specialist, says the company only extracts about 11% of the US uranium, and it’s not to be exported.
For those following nuclear power and uranium, you might have heard about Bill Gates and his US nuclear power plant TerraPower, headquartered in Washington state. In Gates’ journey with nuclear power, he first teamed up with China for special projects for uranium handling, then after the US government stepped in to stop his dealings with China, they decided to work with Japan.
Rosatom’s TENEX, the nuclear company that bought American uranium rights, also works with Japan for handling uranium, and just signed 31 new contracts in the last year.
When Trump was in office Hillary Clinton made sure that the media dove into her allegations that Trump was in bed with Russia. However, after Trump learned more about the deal, he deemed the Uranium One scandal “The real Russian story”.
Here’s timeline of the Russian company, Rosatom.
