AOC Accuses DeSantis of Human Trafficking!

Some call it a “political stunt”; many others say it was necessary to call attention to Joe Biden’s failures at the border, but far-left progressive Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez likens Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ flying of migrants to Massachusetts to “human trafficking!” 

“It’s appalling that far-right politicians seem to have decided that fall before an election is their regularly scheduled time to commit crimes against humanity on refugees,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

“Don’t normalize this. Lying to & trafficking people for TV and clicks isn’t politics as usual. It’s abuse.”

On Thursday, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida took credit for sending two planes — said to be carrying about 30 migrants — from Texas to the Massachusetts island of Martha’s Vineyard. At least some of the migrants have said they were misled about where they were being taken.

“Yes, Florida can confirm the two planes with illegal immigrants that arrived in Martha’s Vineyard today were part of the state’s relocation program to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations,” Taryn Fenske, the communications director for DeSantis, told the press.

DeSantis has said the migrants were planning on traveling to Florida, and he instead wanted other states to share what he calls the “costs” of migration — though the migrants appeared to be met with a warm welcome on Martha’s Vineyard.

Meanwhile, lawyers for the 28 immigrants flown to Martha’s Vineyard have asked the Massachusetts attorney general and the federal government in letters to open criminal investigations into what they described as transporting the migrants under false pretenses, starting with deceiving them of where they were going. 

“It was only when the flight was in mid-air that they were informed they would be flown to Martha’s Vineyard, rather than to Boston as many had been told,” Lawyers for Civil Rights said in the letters to Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey and Rachael Rollins, U.S. attorney for the District of Massachusetts.

“Once the planes landed, those who had induced our clients to travel under these false pretenses disappeared, leaving our clients to learn that the offers of assistance had all been a ruse to exploit them for political purposes,” the organization added.

Rollins told the Boston Globe on Friday that her office is looking at “any and all legal action that we might be able to take” in response to the flights.

DeSantis, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R), and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) have so far transported over 10,000 migrants to Democratic cities, such as New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., to protest the Biden administration’s border policies, which they claim are too lax.
