YouTube Set to Censor Abortion Content
YouTube is at it again – censorship of conservatives and any dissenting voices that question the leftist narrative of abortion. The video-sharing platform says it will remove content that in its judgment spreads “misinformation about abortion safety” or offers instructions for “unsafe abortion procedures.”
Infamous for censoring opposing views and banning vocal critics of the globalist-leftist ideology in issues like vaccine safety, election integrity, and the so-called hate speech, YouTube is now set to crack down on users who try to show the many risks associated with abortion. The Google subsidiary says health information needs to come from authorities.
YouTube’s policies on health and medical matters “rely on published guidance from health authorities” and prioritize “connecting people to content from authoritative sources on health topics.
By implication, all content on the topic of abortion that does not agree with the narrative of the mainstream medical establishment will be censored or flagged as “medical misinformation.” In the footsteps of Facebook and Twitter, YouTube will also affix an “information panel” with abortion content that will direct viewers to the health authorities for verification and “provide context” in accordance with information approved by the health authorities.
The move to put YouTube’s scissors of censor to work on abortion related content comes as part of the left’s explosive reaction to last month’s Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade. The fear that red states will ban abortion has led to liberals advocating other methods of killing the unborn babies including advocacy for the abortion pills. However, those pills are approved and recommended by the health agencies, so it is unlikely that YouTube will censor content advocating them.
While it sounds reasonable to alert viewers against possibly harmful procedures and substances in self-induced abortion attempts by desperate pregnant women not really willing to carry the pregnancy, the practice of controlling content by YouTube and other platforms in the past has always been partisan. Conservatives and libertarians get censored for reporting and posting opinions critical of the left. YouTube has made it clear that it believes and goes with what the authorities approve—a position that puts government and its corporate allies, like the pharmaceutical industry, in charge of people’s speech.
It’s worth reminding that a number of free speech video platforms have become quite popular over the past few years as alternatives to the leftist-controlled YouTube. Notable among these are Rumble, BitChute, and Brighteon, and most or all important commentators and journalists banned or censored on YouTube share their videos on these sites.
